Mantan Menteri Koordinator Bidang Kemaritiman, Rizal Ramli, telah melakukan pertemuan dengan Gubernur DKI Jakarta, Anies Rasyid Baswedan, di kantor Balai Kota DKI Jakarta, Senin, 30 Juli 2018.

Usai melakukan pertemuan, Rizal Ramli menyinggung hanya ada dua orang yang dapat mengalahkan Presiden Joko Widodo dalam pesta demokrasi pemilihan presiden 2019. Dua orang itu Rizal Ramli dan Anies Rasyid Baswedan.

"Saya memang bercanda sama Anies, kalau ada kompetensi presiden yang fair, hanya dua orang yang bisa mengalahkan Pak Jokowi. Satu Anies Baswedan, kedua Rizal Ramli. Kalau yang lain sih masih ecek-ecek lah," ujar Rizal Ramli.

Jika maju dalam pemilihan presiden dan Anies Rasyid Baswedan maju sebagai calon presiden maka Rizal siap bertarung dengan baik dan tidak akan menimbulkan permusuhan.

"Seandainya Anies maju jadi calon presiden, saya maju, karena kami teman lama sejak mahasiswa. I think thats the better buat Indonesia. Tidak ada lagi model musuh-musuhan," katanya.

Hingga saat ini, Rizal belum diketahui apakah akan maju dan diusung oleh partai politik dalam Pilpres 2019 atau tidak. Begitu juga, Gubernur DKI Jakarta, Anies Rasyid Baswedan, yang hingga kini belum ada kabar apakah akan diusung sebagai calon presiden oleh koalisi Partai Gerindra, PKS, PAN, juga Demokrat.
