Penyelenggara acara di Malaysia telah mencabut dua potret pegiat LGBT dari sebuah pameran foto umum karena adanya kecaman dari pemerintah.


Direktur George Town Festival mengatakan dirinya "diarahkan" untuk menurunkan potret oleh Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri untuk Urusan Agama, Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

Mujahid mengatakan penyebaran kebudayaan LGBT tidak didukung di Malaysia.

Pameran tersebut menampilkan serangkaian potret sejumlah warga Malaysia yang berpose dengan bendera negara itu.

Foto-foto tersebut diambil tahun lalu pada peringatan 60 tahun kemerdekaan Malaysia.

Di antaranya adalah Nisha Ayub, pegiat transgender yang memenangkan sejumlah penghargaan, termasuk International Women of Courage Award dari Departemen Luar Negeri Amerika Serikat pada tahun 2016 karena kegiatannya untuk hak-hak transgender.
